Sierra Club meeting
7 p.m. May 16. First Presbyterian Church, 520 Washington Ave. Professor Clark Alexander from the Skidaway Institute of Oceanography will speak at the Sierra Club meeting May 16 on how sea level rise will affect the Georgia coast. This meeting is free an open to the public.

Celebrating the Arts
6 p.m. May 16. Shuman Elementary. Join us on Thursday, May 16, for the Spring Visual Arts Exhibition and Performances by the Shuman Singers and Shuman Steppers. Under the direction of visual arts teacher, Adele Candice Hughes, over 150 students collaborated on creating the exhibition which includes a wide variety of two and three-dimensional visual art mediums. “The Origins of the Two Lefts in Latin America”
7:30 p.m. May 16. The Coastal Georgia Center, 305 Fahm St. In the last fifteen years, left-wing parties or movements have taken power in most of Latin America; however, their government policies vary dramatically.  Some governments have embraced market-oriented economic policies; others have dramatically expanded state intervention in their economies. The presentation will offer a generational explanation for the emergence of these two very different left tendencies. The speaker will be Raúl L. Madrid is Associate Professor in the Department of Government at the University of Texas, Austin. Open to the public. Free for members, students and accompanying family members, educators and active military and their dependents. $10 for non-members.

Third Thursdays on Tybee

‘The Next Frontier: The Horizon of the Human Experience’
5:30 p.m. May 16. SCAD Museum of Art, 601 Turner Blvd. Holley Henderson is the founder of H2 Ecodesign, a consulting firm for eco-positive design in the built environment. This lecture will explore the idea that current green building thought equates function with performance metrics and life-cycle analysis and that form equates with the human elements of process, community, health, satisfaction, beauty and nature. All lectures are free and open to the public.

Lunch and conversation with Anna Quindlen
Noon. May 16. Plantation Ballroom, The Landings Club. Lunch and conversation with Anna Quindlen, a special Savannah Book Festival event, will be May 16 at The Landings club. Quindlen is a New York Times bestselling author, journalist, columnist and 1992 Pulitzer Prize winner for commentary. July 8-19. DeRenne Middle School, 1009 Clinch St. The 15th Annual Summer Music Camp sponsored by BRAVO Music Company, Inc. (Black Youth Reaching to Achieve in Vocal and Orchestral Music) will be held Monday through Friday, July 8–July 19. The hours are 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. 
Early bird registration is prior to May 17: 1st camper per family, registration each camper is $50, tuition, $335, total tuition, $385. After 1st camper, registration each camper is $50, tuition each camper, $235, total tuition each camper, $285. Tea in the Garden at the Davenport House
4:30 p.m. May 16, 17; 5 p.m. May 24, 30, 31. Davenport House Museum, 324 E. State St. Learn about tea traditions and experience an early 19th-century tea in Davenport House’s beautiful courtyard garden. Patrons will visit areas of the home where tea service took place and will participate in an afternoon tea with costumed interpreters in the garden. The performance requires that guests be able to walk up and down stairs. The cost is $18 and reservations are recommended as space is limited. For more information, call 912-236-8097.
