Wormsloe Historic Site: War of Jenkins’ Ear
1-3 p.m. May 25-27. Wormsloe State historic Site, 7601 Skidaway Road. Wormsloe will commemorate Georgia’s role in the 1739-48 war between Britain and Spain. A brief presentation at the Visitor Center will be followed by a walking tour of the site. The program will also include military drills and black powder weapons demonstrations. This popular run will begin at Forsyth Park and continue one mile straight down Drayton Street, finishing on Broughton Street. This unique running event attracts all levels of participants, from children to experienced runners. ‘Discovering 1820s Savannah: Early Birds Walking Tour of the City Isaiah Knew’
8 a.m. May 25. Davenport House Museum, 324 E. State St. See what survives of the 1820s Savannah that master builder Isaiah Davenport knew. Beginning at the Davenport House Museum, built in 1820, participants will walk by some of the finest examples of preservation in the city and learn about what no longer remains. Topics will include the Great Fire of 1820, the yellow fever epidemic of 1820, Lafayette’s visit to Savannah in 1825 and the celebrations surrounding the 50th anniversary of the United States in 1826.
