A Chicago expert on hiring programs for ex-offenders will be featured at “Opening Doors for All,” Step Up Savannah’s annual meeting on Oct. 23.
Step Up officials say there were well over 1,000 men and women returned to Chatham County in after serving time in state prison and jails.
“Employment is a top need for individuals returning to their communities are incarceration, yet there are precious few local resources designed to steer these individuals on the path to success,” said Suzanne Donovan, communications director with Step Up.
Steven McCullough, vice president/special projects for Safer Foundation of Chicago will address that issue as the key note speaker.
His foundation works to reduce recidivism by supporting efforts to help offenders get jobs and become law- abiding community members. Last year, the foundation places more than 4,000 individuals into jobs in Illinois and parts of Iowa.
Also scheduled is presentation to a local business of the annual Workplace Innovator Award for programs to support lower-wage workers.
The event, from 7:30 a.m.-9:30 A.m. will be held at the Savannah Technical College’s Eckburg Auditorium.
The event is open to all at no charge but reservations are required. Email styler@stepupsavannah.org or call 232-6747.
