ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) — A man has been charged with disorderly conduct after authorities say he bit off part of an Anderson County sheriff's deputy's finger during a fight.
Authorities say 57-year-old Sgt. Andrew Hyslop was off duty Friday night when he was attacked by another man in a parking lot behind a bar in Anderson.
Deputies say several waitresses told Hyslop another man had touched them inappropriately. Hyslop says he approached 34-year-old Brian Ashley Gilbert and told him to leave, but the man charged at the deputy and bit off part of one of Hyslop's pinkie fingers.
Gilbert was being held without bond, and it wasn't known if he had an attorney. Hyslop has been hospitalized for a blood disorder,
Doctors determined that the severed part of his finger could not be reattached.
