The remains of 3rd Infantry Division soldier Sgt. Stefan M. Smith will return to Hinesville Friday morning.
The Liberty County Chamber of Commerce is encouraging people to line the streets of Ga. 84 near Carter Funeral Home in Hinesville on Friday, August 2, 2013 between 10:00am and 11:00am to support Smith's family as his remains are escorted by the Patriot Guard.
Ted Harris, a local veteran is providing American flags for people to wave. The Chamber requests that people do not park at the funeral home to allow the family and escort to park there. There is parking available along Ga. 84 to accommodate parking needs.
The viewing will take place on Saturday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Carter Funeral Home. The funeral is scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday at New Beginnings Church in Ludowici.
Smith, who lived in Ludowici with his wife and three children, was killed in an improvised explosive device attack with two other 3rd ID soldiers in July while deployed to eastern Afghanistan.
