A Chatham County Sheriff’s Office K-9 died Sunday morning.
Bo, a 10-year-old German shepherd, became lethargic and was taken to a veterinarian Friday afternoon, said Gena Bilbo, sheriff’s spokeswoman. The dog was rushed into surgery, and a growth was found.
Bo was recovering after the growth was removed on Friday, but he became ill again Sunday before dying, Bilbo said.
Bo had been with the sheriff’s office for eight years, where he worked as a drug dog on the highway interdiction team with his partner, Sgt. Michael Street.
The K-9 will be cremated and his remains returned to his partner, Bilbo said.
