Genealogy Class
Segment One: Oct. 3, 10, 17 and 24; Segment Two: Nov. 14 and 21. Southwest Chatham Library. The Southwest Chatham Library, at the far west end of the Savannah Mall, is sponsoring a free and comprehensive program titled “Getting Started in Genealogy.” This class will be conducted in two segments, with a two-week recess in between to allow time for independent research. All classes will be from 10-11:30 a.m. Thursdays. The instructor is Charlie Bourland, an experienced genealogist, author and speaker. The program will give you the skills to create a step-by-step work plan to research your family history and enable you to leave a lasting legacy for your descendants. The class is free, but space is limited. You must register by calling the library at 912-925-8306.

Columbia City Ballet auditions for ‘Dracula’
4 p.m. Sept. 7. Savannah Civic Center, 301 W. Oglethrope Ave. The Columbia City Ballet has announced auditions for “Dracula” on Sept. 7. Auditions for male and female dancers ages 7-10 will be from 4-5 p.m., and auditions for male  and female dancers ages 11 and older will be from 5-6 p.m. Bring pointe shoes for those on pointe more than two years. Dress code for females: black leotard, pink tights, hair in slick bun, lip and cheek color with light eyeshadow; males: white leotard or plain white T-shirt, black tights and black shoes or black tights with white socks and white shoes. Screening of ‘The Hunt’
5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Sept. 7. Muse Arts warehouse, 703 Louisville Road. Directed and co-written by Thomas Vinterberg, one of the founders of the Dogme movement, “The Hunt” is a disturbing depiction of how a lie becomes the truth when gossip, doubt and malice are allowed to flourish and ignite a witch hunt that soon threatens to destroy an innocent man’s life. Winner of three Cannes Festival awards, European Awards and British Independent Film Awards. 106 minutes. In Danish with English subtitles. Tickets are $8. Healthy Hinesville 5K
8-11 a.m. Sept. 7. Bradwell Park. This year, the city of Hinesville began a “Healthy Hinesville” campaign to encourage healthy lifestyles for employees and residents. In considering health and wellness, mental health is often forgotten. Join us for the Healthy Hinesville 5K Run/Walk on Sept. 7. This will be a time to help raise funds for local mental health patients and promote awareness for mental health issues in our community. Coastal Empire Beach Festival

Youth Triathlon
8 a.m. Sept. 7. The first annual Safe Kids Savannah Youth Triathlon presented by Chatham County will take place at 8 a.m. Sept. 7. Registration is now open for the swim, bike and run event that will be geared toward youth ages 9-14. To register, go to www.active.com.
