Chatham County’s Superior Court judges have appointed Janet DeLoach to succeed her father as official court reporter for the Eastern Judicial Circuit.
“It’s business as usual,” Chief Judge Michael Karpf said today.
William “Bill” DeLoach, official court reporter for almost 60 years, died last week. His daughter, Janet, will fill the post which Karpf said was one that needed no fixing.
Janet DeLoach will continue providing court reporters as needed on a sort of rotating basis for both Superior and State Court judges from a pool of eight reporters, rather than each judge having his or her own, Karpf said.
It saves the county money and provides judges with the coverage they need, he said.
“The work gets done in a timely fashion, as always,” Karpf said. “If it’s not broke, don’t fix it.”
Chatham County's State Court judges concurred in the action, said Chief Judge H. Gregory Fowler.
Janet Deloach, 51, has been a court reporter since 1996, training under her father.
She will be assisted by chief assistant Susie Rohlfs, who started working as a court reporter for DeLoach in 1986.
“They will continue to run the court reporting office and furnish us with the services were need,” Karpf said.
