A Pooler man on Wednesday was indicted in the July death of his 2-year-old daughter by leaving a loaded, unsecured firearm accessible to her.
Joshua Henry, 24, contributed to the deprivation of a minor resulting in her death July 5, the Chatham County grand jury determined in a three-count indictment.
The victim, Cheyanne Henry, died from a .40-cal. gunshot wound at her father’s Governor Gwinnett Way home in Pooler.
A single round from the weapon, which she found on a night stand, struck her in the chest and she fell back onto the bed, Pooler police said. The weapon had been left with a round in the chamber, police said.
She had been asleep in her father’s bed when she awoke, found the weapon, and manipulated the weapon, poice said.
The victim was visting her father, a Fort Stewart-based soldier, for two weeks when the incident occurred. He was in the kitchen at the time and thought his daughter was asleep.
The grand jury also indicted Henry on charges of cruelty to a child and reckless conduct.
