The owner of Simply Southern Restaurant in Effingham County is putting together her annual meals for the needy at Thanksgiving and Christmas and is looking for donations and volunteers.
Amy Moore says she would appreciate donations of money and donations of desserts such as cakes or cookies. And she’ll need volunteers to help cook on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and to package and deliver meals on Thanksgiving Day.
She also is happy to learn of anyone who might need a meal for the holidays. She learns of people who need meals through area churches, schools and word-of-mouth.
Last year, Moore and her family, friends and volunteers delivered 350 meals at Thanksgiving and more than 400 meals at Christmas.
Moore says the effort started several years ago, when her sister lost a son and didn’t want to spend Thanksgiving alone.
Moore owns the Simply Southern Restaurant on Long Bridge Road, which serves breakfast and lunch Monday through Friday and dinner on Friday night. The restaurant also provides catering services.
The volunteers will be working out of the Springfield United Methodist Church’s kitchen for Thanksgiving this year.
