“Johnny Mercer and Me!”
3 p.m. Nov. 11, 18; 8 p.m. Nov. 9, 10, 15, 16, 17; Muse Theater. “Johnny Mercer and Me!” is a completely revamped story based on the life of popular American songwriter and singer John Herndon “Johnny” Mercer. Written by Miriam K. Center, the show was originally produced in 2009 at The Savannah Civic Center and has been completely reworked to reflect more of the life of Johnny Mercer and his music. Fort Pulaski Commemorates Veterans Day
Nov.10-12. Fort Pulaski. To commemorate Veterans Day, the National Park Service will waive all entrance fees throughout Veterans Day weekend. Savannah’s national park – Fort Pulaski National Monument will be fee free from Saturday, Nov.10 to Monday, Nov.12, 2012. A special military salute to veterans will be offered at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10. Emmaus House Empty Bowl event
Noon-2 p.m. Nov. 11. Emmaus House, 18 Abercorn St. Emmaus House is hosting its second annual Empty Bowl event. This is a fundraiser for Emmaus House soup kitchen, which serves breakfast to the homeless and the hungry in our community five mornings a week. Local artists have donated handmade ceramic bowls and a dozen local restaurants have donated delicious soup. Tickets are $20 for adults and $5 for children. Ground breaking ceremony
3:30 p.m. Nov. 11. The Bloomingdale City Veterans Monument Committee will be holding a ground breaking ceremony for Bloomingdale’s First Veterans Memorial Monument. This will take place across the street from the Bloomingdale City Hall (8 West Highway 80, Bloomingdale GA).
Coat and blanket drive
Alfred Ely Beach High School is hosting a coat and blanket drive to help support students and families in need. Now through Nov. 17, new and clean, gently used coats and blankets will be accepted. A.E. Beach High School will host two “drop off” locations on-site.
Monday-Friday, between the hours of 7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m., donors can drop off coats and blankets with Kristen Swanson in the Guidance Office or with Monica Daughtry in the Media Center. On Saturday, Nov. 17, A.E. Diana Churchill to present lecture
4 p.m. Nov. 11. Flannery O’Connor Childhood Home, 207 E. Charlton St. Expert birdwatcher and Savannah Morning News columnist Diana Churchill invites the audience to journey with her into the world of marsh, sea, winding rivers, arching live oaks and pine forests in search of a deeper connection to this place and the birds that call it home. This lecture is inspired by Flannery O’Connor’s lifelong love of birds, particularly peacocks. The lectures are free and open to the public.
Bucky Pizzarelli- Mercer and More
