One man is behind bars after attempting to sell controlled substances during an operation conducted by the Chatham-Savannah Counter Narcotics Team.
The investigation started after Savannah-Chatham police found an abandoned vehicle that had previously fled from officers and discovered it was filled with prescription pills, said CNT spokesman Gene Harley.
During an investigation into the recovered pills, CNT identified 34-year-old Brian Keyes of Savannah as the primary suspect, Harley said.
CNT furthered its investigation into Keyes, resulting in Keyes unknowingly communicating with an undercover agent. As the investigation continued, Harley said, Keyes agreed to sell the agent Roxicodone, an addictive painkiller.
Just before 8 p.m. Tuesday, Keyes arrived at the agreed-upon meeting location, an Enmark gas station on East DeRenne Avenue, Harley said. Keyes was then taken into custody without incident. A search of Keyes’ person and vehicle resulted in the seizure of 140 Roxicodone pills, 164 Methadone pills, 112 Xanex pills and $1,134.00 cash, Harley said.
Keyes is being held at the Chatham County jail. Tuesday’s arrest of Keyes marked his 17th arrest in Chatham County and second arrest by CNT, Harley said, adding that the seized prescription pills have a street value of approximately $7,300.
