AUGUSTA, Ga. — A frontrunner has emerged among names suggested for the new Georgia university that will result from the merger of two Augusta schools.
The Augusta Chronicle reports (http://bit.ly/NaALDW ) the name Georgia Regents University is being recommended to the state Board of Regents at their meeting Tuesday. The name was spilled in an agenda released in advance of the meeting.
Georgia's University System wants a new name for the college being created by the merger of Augusta State University and Georgia Health Sciences University. Administrators, faculty, students and community leaders have been debating names since January.
Spokesman John Millsaps says the regents won't be bound by the recommended name when it votes Tuesday. It could adopt another suggestion or craft an entirely new name.
