UPDATE: Hodgeville Road near Forest Haven is now open following a hit-and-run accident about 7 p.m. reported shortly before 7.p.m.
Effingham Sheriff’s Office spokesman David Ehsanipoor said a bicyclist was struck from the rear by a vehicle on Hodgeville Road.
A passerby noticed the bike in a ditch on the side of the road and stopped to check, Ehsanipoor said.
“She turned her car around and discovered the bicyclist,” Ehsanipoor said.
The bike rider sustained serious injuries and was taken to Memorial Medical University Center for treatment.
Ehsanipoor said there are no witnesses to the accident and deputies have no description of the vehicle.
“We are asking that anyone who may have been in the area and seen something to contact our office,” Ehsanipoor said.
