An Arizona man has been arrested by the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office for attempting to meet an underage girl for sex.

Steven Schlesselman, 45, of Maricopa County, Ariz., solicited sex from what he thought was a 14-year-old girl but was actually a member of the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. “Schlesselman had been in contact with the undercover agent for several weeks and expressed his intentions on traveling to Georgia to have sex with the child,” sheriff’s spokesman David Ehsanipoor said.

Schlesselman flew from Phoenix, Ariz. to Atlanta Sunday afternoon, landing about 5 p.m. He then rented a vehicle and drove to Effingham County. Investigators believe his only purpose in Georgia was to meet a child for sex.

Schlesselman was arrested while parked in a rental car at a gas station located on Ga. 17 at Midland Road which is where the meeting was to take place.

He has been arrested and charged with criminal attempt to commit child molestation and enticing a child for indecent purposes.

Schlesselman is currently being held in the Effingham County Jail.
