A 30-year-old Savannah man was apprehended by Savannah-Chatham SWAT Team officers after a nearly three-and-a-half hour standoff with police Wednesday night.
Jarred Evan Zeigler was charged with domestic violence battery and with two counts of contempt of court for warrants he was wanted on after he was arrested just before midnight, said Julian Miller, police spokesman.
Police were called to Zeigler’sEmory Driveresidence near DeRenne Avenue about 7:15 p.m. after neighbors heard an altercation, Miller said. Witnesses said a woman was seen being pulled into the house as she was attempting to walk out.
A SWAT officers, violent crime detectives, hostage negotiators and a bomb squad responded to the scene. When officers surrounded the residence the woman exited the building and was taken to an ambulance for examination, Miller said.
A bomb squad robot was used to locate Zeigler who refused to exit the house, Miller said. He was eventually located in a small attic.
