Savannah-Chatham police Friday charged a 21-year-old felon with shooting a man at a southside Savannah apartment complex in January.
Ernest Patterson, of Savannah, faces charges of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, attempted armed robbery, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon during the commission of a crime.
Georgia Department of Corrections records show Patterson was out on parole at the time of the shooting. He was released from Calhoun State Prison in June 2012 after serving about a year for a burglary conviction in Chatham County, those records indicate.
Investigators allege Patterson fired a shot through a door at the Turtle Creek Apartment complex in the 11900 block of White Bluff Road on Jan. 23 that struck a 25-year-old resident inside the building, said Julian Miller, police spokesman.
The shot was apparently fired during a drug-related confrontation with another man outside the apartment, Miller said.
Violent crimes detectives are continuing to investigate the shooting and ask anyone with information on the case to call Crimestoppers at 912-234-2020 or text CRIMES (274637). In the body type, include “CStop2020” plus the tip. Tipsters remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward.
