The red and white jump rope was rendered invisible as Adrienn Banhegyi whipped it around her costumed body.
The Hungarian former world solo jump roping champion held an ear-to-ear grin underneath her heavy makeup as she leapt into the air, spinning and twisting her body over and under the cord much to the amazement of those wandering through Savannah’s Ellis Square Friday morning.
In town to promote Cirque du Soleil’s upcoming shows here, Banhegyi demonstrated her typical routine and some of the more advanced moves they’d see when the Canadian entertainment company brings its show Quidam to the Savannah Civic Center May 7-9.
“Cirque is just something that is so very different from anything else I have been a part of,” said Banhegyi, who has toured with the company for that last two years. “There’s so much to it from the solo jump roping to the double-dutch and the, like, gymnastics-type things and the singing — it’s something really unique.”
