Vice President Joe Biden will visit ports in Savannah and Charleston on Sept. 16 before making a trip to Panama and Mexico.
Biden's visit comes as the two ports are preparing to accommodate increased freight volumes and larger ships projected to move through the Panama Canal, where a major expansion project will be completed in 2015. This expansion project will nearly triple the capacity of the canal and will allow significantly larger and deeper ships to call on U.S. ports.
Details of Biden's visit will be announced later. See the Savannah Morning News and savannahnow.com for information as it becomes available.
