It took until Friday afternoon, but Bluffton (S.C.) High School finally found out where its quarterfinal playoff football game is taking place.
Bluffton is visiting Goose Creek (kickoff was at 7:30) tonight after a judge ruled that the top-ranked Gators, who had been disqualified from the state playoffs for using an ineligible player, be allowed to continue playing.
Goose Creek was removed from the playoffs early this week and had its appeal denied Wednesday by the South Carolina High School League executive committee. The school district filed a lawsuit Thursday against the SCHSL to be reinstated.
Judge Roger Young, Ninth Circuit, heard the motion this morning at the Berkeley County Courthouse. He ruled around 12:30 p.m. that the Gators can play tonight, but ordered the SCHSL to reconvene Monday to rehear the school's appeal.
The executive committee, which voted against Goose Creek 9-2 and 10-1 in a pair of Wednesday decisions, could disqualify the Gators again Monday.
Bluffton was planning to host Conway tonight, but athletic director Dave Adams said Thursday he also was making plans to travel in case the judge's ruling favored Goose Creek.
